Broken up reading

The Economist obituaries book arrived today. In the end it came as a gift from Alison, who ordered it from her sophisticated 3G device as we lay around on the couch in Wham-Charm City one evening last week. Thanks and good timing: I'm wrapping up Studs Terkel's Working, which is long series of discrete monologues about jobs that existed and were done by people (mostly Chicagoans) in the early 1970s. I wonder if I'll read a book with a long, unitary argument or plot soon. Probably not.

Famous loose-canon ass-kickers in the Chicago school of
sociology: Milton Gordon, Studs Terkel, Sergent Jericho "Action" Jackson.
